Machu Picchu

The view from out hotel room in Aquas Calientes, the town right below Machu Picchu.

The view from what Joshua and I decided was "our house" in Machu Picchu.

The sun, water, and earth temples all stacked on each other cut right out of the earth.

Yay, llamas!! (They pronounce it "yama")

This is the glorious view of Machu Picchu!!
Joshua and I had such a wonderful time in Peru and Machu Picchu. It was definitely the adventure that we had called forth. It was perfect!! We spent 5 days in just outside of Lima in the little town called Cieneguella. It was very beautiful, but very, very poor. There was a village set up on the land fill. After that, we went to Cuzco and Machu Picchu for 5 days. The feeling that we got in Machu Picchu can't even be put into words well. It was very peaceful and very surreal. In Cuzco, we even got to see a "waca" which is one of the sacred stones of the Incas. It was amazing. They still only have theories for how the Incas were able to move such large stones around, especially on the tops of mountains! The amazing thing is that there is no mortar between the rocks, they simply fit together like puzzle pieces. After spending our time in Cuzco, we flew back to Lima, thinking we would be heading home in a few hours...anyone who has flown stand by knows that isn't always the case. We ended up staying in Lima for an extra 3 days! But we met this really nice American, whom we call Tio Lou, who graciously let us stay with him while we waited to make a flight back home.

Joshua and I had a very fun time. It really strengthened our relationship to be in a country where we only had each other to talk to as neither of us really spoke Spanish!!
